Wildlife Amazon Region

Amazon Wild life

The amazon is the world largest tropical rainforest and covers Northern Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana. Also referred to as the lungs of the planet. We were very lucky to join up with a team which works for companies like The BBC-National Geographic and other lifestyle channels allowing us to venture into areas away from the tourist. The canopy is so thick that the ground is in total darkness most of the time and it could take up to 5 or 6 minutes of rain before water hit the ground. The Amazon river is 6400KM long and up to 2 kilometres wide. It is the largest river in volume. (Nile is the longest river in the world around 6650KM) Over 480 Amerindian tribes live in the Amazon. Between them they speak over 150 different languages, it is estimated that only 250000 natives are left in the Amazon. Today some tribes still never had contact with the outside world. We are told if the amazon would be a country it would be the 9th biggest country in the world. The Amazon has the world largest rodent, the capybara which fully grown weights around 90KG, it is home to fresh water dolphins, Sloths, anteaters and armadillos. The figures given to us are unbelievable, over 1500 Bird species, over 400 mammals, 430 and a few million insects and more than 35000 plant species. ONE WORD AMAZING
