Officially the Portuguese Republic it is located on the Iberia Peninsula in Southwestern Europe its territory also includes the Azores islands and Madeira. Spain is the only country to have a land border with Portugal. Portugal is a country with something for everyone. From historic cities such as Porto and Coimbra to the rich cultural centre that is Lisbon, Portugal is crammed full of museums, monuments and stunning architecture. There is elegant architecture in Lisbon and rambling ‘olde world’ charm in Porto. Whitewashed villages with a hint of the Moorish in the south and the fairy tale castles of Sintra with its hilltop, fairy tale palace and ancient castle. The best known are the national park in Geres or the Douro Valley near Porto. If you happen to travel during the winter months, the Algarvian and its beautiful beaches have the highest amount of sunshine in Europe. If you like to leave your truck behind visit the islands of Madeira or the Azores. Both are verdant jewels in the Atlantic Ocean with dramatic cliffs and landscapes.
